Quality over Quantity: Toxic Friendships 101

I think it’s safe to say that sometimes friend breakups can be much harder than relationship breakups. Because if you’re breaking up with your once BFF, then who are you supposed to cry over the Notebook with while eating entire pints of Ben and Jerry’s? Sometimes though, the friendship is doing more harm than good and you owe it to yourself to be around positive people who lift you up! Unfortunately, we’ve all probably had a couple of toxic friendships in our life and I like to consider myself an expert on the subject. The Wonderfulness of Mindfulness

Our minds are constantly racing. Thoughts buzz through our brains like electricity. One small idea can lead to another that leads to another that leads to another, until our heads are so heavy that they feel like they might explode from all of the ideas and worries dashing around in our skulls. Information is constantly streaming into our senses and this can become overwhelming, especially since it is far too often the wrong information.
Personally, my mind is on constant “to-do list mode”. Now don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love to-do lists and would get practically nothing accomplished without them, but sometimes my entire thought process revolves around them. I see something and it automatically reminds me of something that I’m not doing, or should be doing, or should have already done. And this is the kind of information overload that can be extremely stressful.

The Good Thing About Having a “New Year, New Me” Mindset

When the new year comes around, I’ve found that a lot of people start to dread the whole “new year, new me” saying and roll their eyes at anyone who believes that the turning of a calendar page can really be cause to reinvent oneself. The switch from 11:59 PM to 12:00 AM may just mean the start of a new day, but why can’t this be the start of a clean slate? Of course any day you can wake up and plan to change something in your lifestyle. It doesn’t only have to happen on the new year, but the new year is a reminder that clean slates are accessible to anyone. And with a majority of the world adopting this attitude all at once, it may seem a bit more comforting knowing you’re not the only one trying to live a little better.
